The milky river at the front (Tasman River) drains several glaciers in Mt Cook National Park, New Zealand. The water is milky from suspended “rock flour”. The cliffs were shaped by the glacier during the ice age, but have become cut down by streams, carving V shaped valleys. A couple of the streams have small deltas. Old river plains and lateral moraine at many different heights have also been carved away, with only small remnants. Originally they were as big as the river plain now occupied by the glacial river, of which you can only see a tiny part stretching out towards you. The highest mountain to the left (west) is The Nuns Veil.
